About Us

Local 1947 represents Twenty Professional Firefighters protecting the Town of Maynard, Massachusetts.  4 Groups, consisting of a Captain and 4 Firefighter/EMTs.  All members must complete the Massachusetts Recruit Firefighting Training Program and maintain a National EMT Certification.

We are proud members of the International Association of Firefighters as well as the Professional Firefighters of Massachusetts.

Four of our members are current military and represent the Army, Air Force and Coast Guard.  Two of our members retired after proudly serving in the United States Marine Corps.

This following video from the NFPA explains why it is important for you and for our firefighters safety to have a full-time professional fire department.  Some of the immediate tasks that need to be completed at a fire are locating the fire, stretching a hose to the fire, getting water from a hydrant, searching for and rescuing people trapped, venting hot gases from the building, and exposing ceilings and walls to stop fire spread.  Those are just 6 of the tasks, that don't include firefighter safety staffing, and several of the tasks require multiple firefighters.

While we currently only meet 1/3 of the minimum manning for a "working fire" suggested by the NFPA standard 1710, we still train to make the biggest impact on saving lives and property that our staffing allows.  To see an example of how we operate in Maynard, please see our Live Fire Training Video in the YouTube section.
